NGX: Investors record N27.59bn loss as ASI declines by 0.09%;
Trading activities in the Nigeria Equities Market closed negative today Friday (14/04/2023) as the NGX-ASI decreased by 0.09% to close at 51,893.94 compared to 51,944.58 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +1.25%.
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.09% to close at 51,893.94 basis points as against the 0.02% recorded previously to close at 51,944.58 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N27.59bn loss.
At the end of the last weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 260,701,749 shares in 3,766 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,300,870,619.54, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, April 13), today’s data shows 14% decline in volume but 14% improvement in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.3 trillion.
In the aggregate, 106 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 19 gainers and 14 losers. Multiverse Mining & Exploration led the gainers with 9.96% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2.54 per share, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (+9.74%), Royal Exchange (+8.93%) and FTN Cocoa Processors (+8%). On the losing side, Cadbury Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.73% at NGN 10.20 per share, followed by Wapic Insurance (-9.52%), RT Briscoe (-8.33%) and FCMB Group (-6.58%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 94.1 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank (43.2m), Zenith Bank (18.2m) and Sterling Bank (13.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 40.97 (-0.09%) points to close at 51,944.58, representing a 1-week loss of 2.1%, a 4-week loss of 6.46%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 1.27%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.05%; -1.68% 1WK; +0.94% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.68%; -1.19% 1WK; +2.93% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.31%; -1.4% 1WK; +2.48% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.1%; -1.33% 1WK; +5.86% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; -0.17% 1WK; +10.33% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0%; -0.45% 1WK; +1.76% YTD).
