NGX: Investors record N271.49bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.93%
Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator inched up by 498.44 bps amid positive market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index inched up by 0.93% to close at 53,998.12 basis points as against 0.49% gain recorded previously to close at 53,499.68 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N271.49bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 2,869,031,778 shares in 3,940 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,069,740,800.40, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, February 1), today’s data shows 46% improvement in turnover and 6% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 112 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 27 gainers and 13 losers. MRS Oil Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 17.60 per share, followed by Northern Nigeria Flour Mills (+9.88%), International Energy Insurance (+9.76%) and Seplat Petroleum Development Co. (+9.5%).
On the losing side, Sunu Assurances Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.11% at NGN 0.34 per share, followed by Mutual Benefits Assurance (-7.69%), Linkage Assurance (-6.25%) and Veritas Kapital Assurance (-4.76%). Universal Insurance Company recorded the highest volume of 2.72 billion traded shares, followed by Aiico Insurance (14m), Guaranty Trust Holding (13.9m) and Sterling Bank (10.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 498.44 (0.93%) points to close at 53,998.12, representing a 1-week gain of 2.36%, a 4-week gain of 6.15%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 5.36%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.91%; +1.73% 1WK; +5.13% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.08%; +1.06% 1WK; +4.82% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+5.17%; +9.11% 1WK; +14.87% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+1.95%; +1.99% 1WK; +6.38% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1%; +2.48% 1WK; +6.99% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.21%; +2.63% 1WK; +4.63% YTD).
