NGX : Investors record N3.21bn loss as ASI dips marginally by -0.01% amid positive market breadth
Equities market closed on a negative note, as NGXASI depreciated by -0.1% to close at 42,388.57 basis points as against +0.10% appreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) returns currently stands at +5.26%.
Market breadth closed positive as HMARKINS led 20 Gainers as against 14 Losers topped by ETERNA at the end of today’s session – an unimproved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed positive as volume moved up by +94.08% as against -58.39% downtick recorded in the previous session. UACN, FBNH and UBA were the most active to boost market turnover. UACN and FBNH topped market value list.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 275,930,547 shares in 3,489 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,935,101,289.30, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, December 20), today’s data shows 94% improvement in volume, 58% improvement in turnover, but 7% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 22.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 102 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 21 gainers and 15 losers. Meyer led the gainers with 9.52% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.46 per share, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (+9.26%), CAP (+6.87%) and Academy Press (+6.38%).
On the losing side, Eterna came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.91% at NGN 5.00 per share, followed by MRS Oil Nigeria (-9.85%), Japaul Gold and Ventures (-7.69%) and Learn Africa (-7.14%). UAC of Nigeria (UACN) recorded the highest volume of 75.9 million traded shares, followed by FBN Holdings (68.6m), United Bank for Africa (16.7m) and Stanbic IBTC Holdings (13.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 6.14 (-0.01%) points to close at 42,388.57, representing a 1-week gain of 0.17%, a 4-week loss of 2%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 5.26%.
