NGX: Investors record N3.23bn loss as ASI depreciates marginally by -0.01% to open the week negative
Equities market closed on a negative note, on Monday , March 7, as NGXASI depreciated by -0.01% to close at 47,262.61 basis points as against -0.01% depreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +10.64%.
Market breadth closed positive as Cornerston led 19 Gainers as against 18 Losers topped by Nigerins at the end of today’s session an improved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed positive as volume moved up by +62.76% as against -26.33% downtick recorded in the previous session. Jaiz Bank, Access Bank and UBA were the most active to boost market turnover. GTCO and MTNN topped market value list.

At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 291,881,948 shares in 4,792 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,855,286,711.96, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, March 4), today’s data shows 63% improvement in volume, 34% improvement in turnover, and 3% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 109 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 19 gainers and 18 losers. Cornerstone Insurance Company led the gainers with 9.37% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.70 per share, followed by Wapic Insurance (+8.7%), FTN Cocoa Processors (+8.33%) and Honeywell Flour Mill (+5.14%). On the losing side, Niger Insurance Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.7% at NGN 0.21 per share, followed by Aiico Insurance (-5.71%), Linkage Assurance (-5.17%) and Regency Alliance Insurance (-4.76%). Jaiz Bank recorded the highest volume of 72.5 million traded shares, followed by Access Bank (23.1m), UBA (20m) and Transcorp Nigeria (15.9m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 6.00 (-0.01%) points to close at 47,262.61, representing a 1-week loss of 0.28%, a 4-week gain of 0.13%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 10.64%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.21%; -1.15% 1WK; +2.78% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.02%; -0.56% 1WK; +5.09% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.67%; -2.6% 1WK; +8.79% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.21%; -0.95% 1WK; -4.48% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.19%; -0.7% 1WK; +5.32% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.16%; -1.84% 1WK; -2.06% YTD).
