NGX: Investors record N313.02bn loss as ASI declines by 1.04%
Equities Market closed negative as the key market indicator declined by 574.59 bps amid negative market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 1.04% to close at 54915.61 basis points as against 0.42% loss recorded previously to close at 55490.20 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N126.76bn loss.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 137,286,570 shares in 3,489 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 1,509,754,613.07, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, March 15), today’s data shows 24% decline in volume, 56% decline in turnover, and 11% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 114 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with eight gainers and 25 losers. Chams led the gainers with 8.7% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.25 per share, followed by University Press (+7.57%), LivingTrust Mortgage Bank (+3.37%) and Sterling Bank (+2.67%).
On the losing side, Ecobank Transnational came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 10.80 per share, followed by Industrial & Medical Gases (-9.32%), Royal Exchange (-8.22%) and RT Briscoe (-7.69%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 26.1 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (14.7m), Sterling Bank (13.2m) and United Bank for Africa (10.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined 574.59 (-1.04%) points to close at 54,915.61, representing a 1-week loss of 1.62%, a 4-week gain of 0.73%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 7.15%.
