NGX: Investors record N32.27bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.12%
Nigerian Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 59.25 bps amid positive market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.12% to close at 49,475.43 basis points as against a flat position recorded previously to close at 49,416.18 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N32.27bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 411,150,981 shares in 2,992 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 6,347,932,757.15, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, December 20), today’s data shows 311% improvement in volume, 390% improvement in turnover, but 6% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 27 trillion.
In the aggregate, 100 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 21 gainers and 11 losers. University Press led the gainers with 9.83% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.90 per share, followed by Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (+9.68%), Africa Prudential (+9.35%) and Champion Breweries (+4.88%).
On the losing side, Japaul Gold and Ventures came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 3.7% at NGN 0.26 per share, followed by Mutual Benefits Assurance (-3.45%), FTN Cocoa Processors (-3.33%) and Wema Bank (-2.73%). UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust recorded the highest volume of 245 million traded shares, followed by FBN Holdings (55.9m), Geregu Power (25m) and Zenith Bank (7.62m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 59.25 (0.12%) points to close at 49,475.43, representing a 1-week gain of 0.99%, a 4-week gain of 7.01%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 15.82%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.37%; +1.31% 1WK; -2.25% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.14%; +1.03% 1WK; +3.96% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.68%; +2.04% 1WK; +7.87% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.22%; +2.45% 1WK; +2.74% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.15%; +1.59% 1WK; +12.74% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.1%; +0.55% 1WK; +25.64% YTD).
