NGX: Investors record N34.88bn loss as ASI depreciates further by -0.14%, maintains negative posture
Equities market closed on a negative note, as NGXASI depreciated by -0.14% to close at 47,296.07 basis points as against -0.26% depreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +10.72%.
Market breadth closed negative as ABCTRANS led 12 Gainers as against 34 Losers topped by RTBRISCOE at the end of today’s session an unimproved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed negative as volume moved down by -13.04% as against -24.45% downtick recorded in the previous session. TRANSCORP, MTNN and NGXGROUP were the most active to boost market turnover. MTNN and NGXGROUP topped market value list.

At the end of today’s trading session a total of 243,436,768 shares in 7,056 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 6,875,268,028.77, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, March 2), today’s data shows 13% decline in volume, 65% improvement in turnover, and 26% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 112 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 12 gainers and 34 losers. Associated Bus Company led the gainers with 9.37% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.35 per share, followed by Lasaco Assurance (+7.62%), Jaiz Bank (+5.71%) and Linkage Assurance (+3.85%). On the losing side, CAP came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 17.55 per share, followed by RT Briscoe (-10%), Nigerian Exchange Group (-9.96%) and Red Star Express (-9.78%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 28.2 million traded shares, followed by MTN Nigeria (22.7m), Nigerian Exchange Group (22.1m) and FBN Holdings (14m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 64.72 (-0.14%) points to close at 47,296.07, representing a 1-week gain of 0.05%, a 4-week loss of 0.07%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 10.72%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.19%; -0.16% 1WK; +5.17% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.47%; -0.84% 1WK; +2.63% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.06%; +0.93% 1WK; +6.63% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.03%; -0.68% 1WK; +5.4% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (-0.14%; +10.34% 1WK; +36% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (-0.3%; -0.68% 1WK; +14.45% YTD).
