NGX: Investors record N37.93bn loss as ASI depreciates by -0.15% to open the week bearish
Equities market closed negative on Monday as NGXASI depreciated by -0.15% to close at 46,893.86 basis points as against +0.01% appreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +9.78%.
Market breadth closed Positive as Beta Glass led 18 Gainers as against 19 Losers topped by LearnAfrica at the end of today’s session an improved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed negative as volume moved up by +103.22% as against -17.52% downtick recorded in the previous session. Transcorp, Sterling Bank , Fidelity Bank and Linkage Assurance were the most active to boost market turnover. SEPLAT and Zenith Bank topped market value list.
At the end of the first weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 359,890,155 shares in 5,163 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,611,059,879.50, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, March 25), today’s data shows 103% improvement in volume, 38% decline in turnover, but 33% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.3 trillion.
In the aggregate, 110 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 18 gainers and 19 losers. Beta Glass Company led the gainers with 9.92% share price appreciation closing at NGN 58.20 per share, followed by PZ Cussons Nigeria (+9.68%), Livestock Feeds (+9.03%) and Linkage Assurance (+8%). On the losing side, Zenith Bank came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 12.45% at NGN 23.55 per share, followed by Learn Africa (-9.68%), Unity Bank (-8.16%) and Caverton Offshore Support Group (-7.09%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 92 million traded shares, followed by Sterling Bank (50.7m), Fidelity Bank (46.7m) and Linkage Assurance (30.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 70.37 (-0.15%) points to close at 46,893.86, representing a 1-week loss of 0.76%, a 4-week loss of 1.06%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 9.78%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.45%; -1.41% 1WK; +3.9% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-1.36%; -2.78% 1WK; +1.47% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.42%; +0.11% 1WK; +6.78% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.18%; -1.37% 1WK; -4.03% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.06%; +0.05% 1WK; +5.45% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.01%; -0.86% 1WK; +13.48% YTD).
