NGX: Investors record N403.83bn gain as ASI rises by 1.71%
…Seplat, DANGCEM lead top traded stocks by value
Equities market closed on a positive note, as NGXASI appreciated by +1.71% to close at 44,608.82 basis points as against -0.09% depreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) returns currently stands at +4.43%.
Market breadth closed positive as Academy led 24 Gainers as against 15 Losers topped by Regalins at the end of today’s session – an improved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed negative as volume down by -9.58% as against -5.37% downtick recorded in the previous session. Transcorp, FBNH and Jaizbank were the most active to boost market turnover. Seplat and Dangcem topped market value list.
At the end of today’s trading session on the NGX, a total of 266,328,204 shares in 4,502 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,822,086,546.83, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, January 11), today’s data shows 10% decline in volume and 44% decline in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 24 trillion.
In the aggregate, 108 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 24 gainers and 15 losers. Academy Press led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.66 per share, followed by Jaiz Bank (+10%), Unity Bank (+8.7%) and Sovereign Trust Insurance (+8.33%). On the losing side, Regency Alliance Insurance Co. came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.7% at NGN 0.42 per share, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (-8.7%), Sunu Assurances Nigeria (-8.11%) and Aiico Insurance (-3.7%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 89 million traded shares, followed by FBN Holdings (30.5m), Jaiz Bank (14.2m) and Sterling Bank (11.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 749.52 (1.71%) points to close at 44,608.82, representing a 1-week gain of 2.6%, a 4-week gain of 6.51%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 4.43%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Premium Index (+3.42%; +3.36% 1WK; +2.38% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+1.87%; +0.81% 1WK; +0.92% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+1.66%; +1.46% 1WK; +0.7% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+3.06%; +4.41% 1WK; +4.9% YTD), NGX Lotus Islamic Index (+2.02%; -0.97% 1WK; -1.06% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+1.37%; +1.81% 1WK; +4.46% YTD).
