NGX: Investors record N440.93bn gain as ASI increases by 1.51%
Trading activities in the Equity Market closed positive Thursday as the NGX-ASI appreciated by 1.51% to close at 54,413.21 compared to 53,603.80 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +6.17%.
Similarly, the market capitalization increased by N440.93 billion to N29.64 trillion from N29.20 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N4.23 billion from N3.26 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 973,642,627 shares in 3,718 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,227,159,887.82, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, March 29), today’s data shows 312% improvement in volume, 30% improvement in turnover, but 5% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.6 trillion.
In the aggregate, 120 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 23 gainers and 10 losers. Oando led the gainers with 9.98% share price appreciation closing at NGN 5.40 per share, followed by Sunu Assurances Nigeria (+9.09%), MTN Nigeria (+8.89%) and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (+8.77%).
On the losing side, PZ Cussons Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 5.88% at NGN 11.20 per share, followed by Chams (-4.17%), Unilever Nigeria (-3.57%) and Japaul Gold and Ventures (-3.45%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 456 million traded shares, followed by LivingTrust Mortgage Bank (255m), Fidelity Bank (143m) and United Bank for Africa (16.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 809.41 (1.51%) points to close at 54,413.21, representing a 1-week loss of 0.93%, a 4-week loss of 2.26%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 6.17%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+1.61%; -0.9% 1WK; +5.57% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.35%; +0.72% 1WK; +6.94% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+3.32%; +2.68% 1WK; +11.87% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.13%; +0.42% 1WK; +5.7% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1%; +2.77% 1WK; +7.83% YTD), and NGX Insurance Index (+0.55%; -1.31% 1WK; -0.11% YTD).
