NGX: Investors record N5.94bn gain as ASI appreciates marginally by 0.02%

Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 10.91 bps amid positive market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.02% to close at 52,626.42 basis points as against a -0.16% loss recorded previously to close at 52,615.51 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N5.94bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 129,038,807 shares in 3,183 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 1,819,198,653.56, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, January 18), today’s data shows 41% decline in volume, 59% decline in turnover, and 6% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 111 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 25 gainers and 16 losers. International Energy Insurance led the gainers with 9.76% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.45 per share, followed by Computer Warehouse Group (+9.47%), Caverton Offshore Support Group (+9.38%) and John Holt (+9.09%).
On the losing side, C&I Leasing came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 3.15 per share, followed by Sovereign Trust Insurance (-7.14%), Chams (-7.14%) and UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust (-6.06%).
Zenith Bank recorded the highest volume of 18.6 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (18.5m), United Bank for Africa (9.73m) and Royal Exchange (9.39m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 10.91 (0.02%) points to close at 52,626.42, representing a 1-week gain of 1.11%, a 4-week gain of 6.5%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 2.68%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.11%; -0.12% 1WK; +3.09% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.01%; +1.19% 1WK; +3.12% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.36%; +3% 1WK; +3.06% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.2%; -1.51% 1WK; +4.71% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.05%; -0.94% 1WK; +1.69% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.03%; +1.39% 1WK; +1.77% YTD).
