NGX: Investors record N5.94bn loss as ASI declines by 0.06%
Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator declined by 31.74 bps amid positive market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by -0.06% to close at 52,594.68 basis points as against a 0.02% gain recorded previously to close at 52,626.42 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N17.29bn loss.
At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 443,752,621 shares in 3,100 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 1,684,255,843.46, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, January 19), today’s data shows 244% improvement in volume, 7% decline in turnover, and 3% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 112 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 15 gainers and 13 losers. Abbey Mortgage Bank led the gainers with 9.8% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.68 per share, followed by Prestige Assurance Company (+9.52%), International Energy Insurance (+8.89%) and Cornerstone Insurance Company (+7.14%).
On the losing side, Linkage Assurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.62% at NGN 0.47 per share, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (-7.35%), Mutual Benefits Assurance (-3.23%) and Dangote Sugar Refinery (-2.58%). Veritas Kapital Assurance recorded the highest volume of 347 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (11.3m), Zenith Bank (6.98m) and Fidelity Bank (6.62m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 31.74 (-0.06%) points to close at 52,594.68, representing a 1-week gain of 0.16%, a 4-week gain of 6.43%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 2.62%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.06%; +0.18% 1WK; +3.06% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.22%; -0.67% 1WK; +2.87% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.37%; -2.6% 1WK; +5.1% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.01%; -1.18% 1WK; +3.99% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; +0.35% 1WK; +3.62% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (-0.03%; -1.06% 1WK; +1.66% YTD).
