NGX: Investors record N6.55bn loss as ASI declines by 0.02%
It was a bearish trading Thursday as equities market closed negative with the key market indicator declining by 12.03 bps amid negative market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.02% to close at 54,924.08 basis points as against 0.06% gain recorded previously to close at 54936.11 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N6.55bn loss.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 117,850,276 shares in 2,575 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 1,398,778,263.30, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, March 22), today’s data shows 12% decline in volume, 5% improvement in turnover, and 4% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 106 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 14 gainers and 17 losers. Sunu Assurances Nigeria led the gainers with 9.09% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.48 per share, followed by Transcorp Hotels (+8.32%), Academy Press (+7.5%) and Regency Alliance Insurance (+7.14%). On the losing side, NCR Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.96% at NGN 2.35 per share, followed by Linkage Assurance (-8.7%), AXA Mansard Insurance (-7.5%) and Royal Exchange (-4.17%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 23.4 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank (17m), FBN Holdings (13.1m) and Royal Exchange (9.18m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 12.03 (-0.02%) points to close at 54,924.08, representing a 1-week gain of 0.02%, a 4-week gain of 0.51%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 7.17%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.02%; +0.1% 1WK; +6.53% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.04%; -0.19% 1WK; +6.18% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; +12.73% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0%; +0.19% 1WK; +6.37% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.01%; -0.25% 1WK; +5.87% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.04%; -0.78% 1WK; +18.46% YTD).
