NGX: Investors record N64.21bn loss as ASI depreciates by 0.25
Nigerian Equities Market closed negative as the key market indicator declined by 117.89bps amid flat market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.25% to close at 47,436.45 basis points as against 2.04% gain recorded previously to close at 47,554.34 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N64.21bn loss.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 279,282,802 shares in 3,781 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 1,562,584,980.77, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, November 25), today’s data shows 182% improvement in volume, 72% decline in turnover, but 36% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.8 trillion.
In the aggregate, 111 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 15 gainers and 17 losers. Prestige Assurance Company led the gainers with 9.3% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.47 per share, followed by N.E.M. Insurance Company (+9.22%), Courteville Business Solutions (+8.7%) and Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (+8.33%).
On the losing side, Beta Glass Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.9% at NGN 39.60 per share, followed by McNichols (-9.68%), SCOA Nigeria (-9.4%) and Jaiz Bank (-6.82%).
Regency Alliance Insurance recorded the highest volume of 97.6 million traded shares, followed by Jaiz Bank (65.4m), United Bank for Africa (22.9m) and Fidelity Bank (12.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 117.89 (-0.25%) points to close at 47,436.45, representing a 1-week gain of 6.21%, a 4-week gain of 8.21%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 11.05%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.12%; +1.28% 1WK; -5.27% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.32%; +5.96% 1WK; -0.78% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.49%; +6.44% 1WK; -16.54% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.09%; -0.94% 1WK; +28.45% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.02%; -1.61% 1WK; -6.36% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (-0.02%; +6.34% 1WK; +11.07% YTD).
