NGX: Investors record N75.34bn loss as ASI dips by -0.34% amid positive market breadth
Equities market closed on a negative note, as NGXASI depreciated by -0.34% to close at 42,244.22 basis points as against -0.01% depreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) returns currently stands at +4.90%.
Market breadth closed positive as CUTIX led 17 Gainers followed by MAYBAKER led as against 14 Losers topped by ROYALEX at the end of today’s session – an unimproved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed negative as volume moved down by -18.81% as against +94.08% uptick recorded in the previous session. UACN, MBENEFIT and SOVRENINS were the most active to boost market turnover. UACN and NESTLE topped market value list.
MAYBAKER leads the list of active stocks that recorded impressive volume spike at the end of today’s session.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 224,026,702 shares in 2,677 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,657,505,793.08, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, December 21), today’s data shows 19% decline in volume, 32% decline in turnover, and 23% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 22.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 95 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 17 gainers and 14 losers. Cutix led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2.64 per share, followed by May & Baker Nigeria (+10%), UPDC (+7.76%) and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (+5.08%).
On the losing side, Royal Exchange came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 6.67% at NGN 0.70 per share, followed by Lasaco Assurance (-6.36%), Union Bank Nigeria (-5.15%) and FCMB Group (-4.33%). UAC of Nigeria (UACN) recorded the highest volume of 77.4 million traded shares, followed by Mutual Benefits Assurance (15m), Sovereign Trust Insurance (12.2m) and Veritas Kapital Assurance (9.63m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 144.35 (-0.34%) points to close at 42,244.22, representing a 1-week loss of 0.27%, a 4-week loss of 2.31%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 4.9%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (-0.06%; +0.17% 1WK; +2.21% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.42%; -0.28% 1WK; +3.61% YTD), NGX Premium Index (-0.78%; -0.74% 1WK; +16.62% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.58%; +1.05% 1WK; -3.37% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.55%; +1% 1WK; +2.01% YTD), and NGX ASeM Index (+0%; -8.11% YTD).
