NGX: Investors record N81.14bn loss as ASI declines by 0.27%
Trading activities in the Equity Market closed negative on Tuesday as the NGX-ASI decreased by 0.27% to close at 54,035.39 compared to 54,184.34 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +5.43%.
Similarly, the market capitalization decreased by N81.15 billion to N29.44 trillion from N29.52 trillion recorded at the previous trading day’s close, while the market turnover increased to N3.07 billion from N2.38 billion
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 296,735,657 shares in 4,590 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,066,454,918.39, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, April 3), today’s data shows 1% improvement in volume, 29% improvement in turnover, and 4% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 111 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 14 gainers and 22 losers. SCOA Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.99 per share, followed by Nigerian Aviation Handling Co. (+9.55%), Linkage Assurance (+9.09%) and Sunu Assurances Nigeria (+8.51%).
On the losing side, Multiverse Mining & Exploration came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.88% at NGN 2.92 per share, followed by Eterna (-8.94%), Associated Bus Company (-8.82%) and Nigerian Exchange Group (-5.45%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 46.6 million traded shares, followed by Oando (33.4m), Transcorp Nigeria (30.7m) and AXA Mansard Insurance (30.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 148.95 (-0.27%) points to close at 54,035.39, representing a 1-week gain of 1.71%, a 4-week loss of 2.82%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 5.43%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.28%; +1.58% 1WK; +4.48% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.82%; -0.65% 1WK; +3.86% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.89%; +2.92% 1WK; +3.03% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.25%; -0.06% 1WK; +10.38% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.12%; +0.05% 1WK; +19.09% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (-0.04%; -1.02% 1WK; +2.17% YTD).
