NGX: Investors record N84.23bn loss as ASI declines by 0.13%
Nigerian Equities Market closed negative as the key market indicator declined by 67.98 bps amid negative market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.13% to close at 54,299.76 basis points as against a 0.29% gain recorded previously to close at 54,367.74 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N37.03bn loss.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 200,035,312 shares in 4,380 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,622,384,183.33, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, February 6), today’s data shows 4% improvement in volume and 59% improvement in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.6 trillion.
In the aggregate, 114 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 20 gainers and 26 losers. Conoil led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 29.15 per share, followed by MRS Oil Nigeria (+9.82%), International Energy Insurance (+9.35%) and Glaxo Smithkline Consumer (+6.92%).
On the losing side, Japaul Gold and Ventures came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.38% at NGN 0.29 per share, followed by FCMB Group (-7.82%), Royal Exchange (-7.32%) and UAC of Nigeria (-6.12%). FCMB Group recorded the highest volume of 28 million traded shares, followed by Geregu Power (21.1m), Sterling Bank (18.8m) and Transcorp Nigeria (15.8m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 67.98 (-0.13%) points to close at 54,299.76, representing a 1-week gain of 1.99%, a 4-week gain of 5.55%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 5.95%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.01%; +2.08% 1WK; +5.95% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.33%; +0.27% 1WK; +4.56% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.54%; +9.72% 1WK; +15.66% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.01%; +4.21% 1WK; +8.03% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.02%; -0.5% 1WK; +5.11% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (-0.22%; +0.43% 1WK; +4.47% YTD).
