NGX: Investors record N88.05bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.29%
Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 297.65 bps amid negative market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.29% to close at 55,670.24 basis points as against a 0.53% loss recorded previously to close at 55,508.61 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N88.05bn gain
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 206,110,250 shares in 4,385 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,259,641,555.89, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, March 1), today’s data shows 11% decline in volume, 23% decline in turnover, but 1% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 30.3 trillion.
In the aggregate, 112 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 17 gainers and 25 losers. Sunu Assurances Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.44 per share, followed by Dangote Sugar Refinery (+9.94%), McNichols (+9.72%) and Geregu Power (+9.02%).
On the losing side, Sovereign Trust Insurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.27 per share, followed by Academy Press (-9.38%), Transcorp Nigeria (-7.97%) and Chams (-7.14%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 29.7 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (18.6m), UAC of Nigeria (14m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (13.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 161.63 (0.29%) points to close at 55,670.24, representing a 1-week gain of 1.87%, a 4-week gain of 3.1%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 8.62%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.03%; +1.42% 1WK; +7.71% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.08%; +3.24% 1WK; +8.07% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.63%; +2.12% 1WK; +7.05% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.58%; +8.13% 1WK; +17.85% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0%; +1.74% 1WK; +4.68% YTD), and NGX Insurance Index (-0.09%; +1.98% 1WK; +3.12% YTD).
