NGX: Investors record N97.29bn loss as ASI dips by -0.38%
Equities market closed on a negative note, as NGXASI depreciated by -0.38% to close at 46,930.66 basis points as against +1.04% appreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +9.87%.
Market breadth closed negative as IKEJAHOTEL led 21 Gainers as against 33 Losers topped by ABCTRANS at the end of today’s session an unimproved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed positive as volume moved up by +27.36% as against -21.63% downtick recorded in the previous session. Fidelity Bank, Transcorp and Courtville were the most active to boost market turnover. Seplat and NB topped market value list.
Cileasing leads the list of active stocks that recorded impressive volume spike at the end of today’s session.
At the end of today’s trading session on the NGX, a total of 434,946,390 shares in 5,878 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 6,260,279,351.40, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, February 1), today’s data shows 27% improvement in volume, 70% improvement in turnover, but 8% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.3 trillion.
In the aggregate, 113 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 21 gainers and 33 losers. Ikeja Hotel led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.43 per share, followed by Conoil (+9.96%), Academy Press (+9.71%) and RT Briscoe (+8.33%). On the losing side, Associated Bus Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.33% at NGN 0.33 per share, followed by Courteville Business Solutions (-6.9%), Caverton Offshore Support Group (-6.17%) and May & Baker Nigeria (-5.95%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 47.7 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (35.6m), Courteville Business Solutions (32.5m) and Zenith Bank (30.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 180.55 (-0.38%) points to close at 46,930.66, representing a 1-week gain of 0.86%, a 4-week gain of 7.94%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 9.87%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (-0.31%; +0.5% 1WK; +2.5% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.56%; +1.81% 1WK; +4.01% YTD), NGX Premium Index (-0.85%; -0.74% 1WK; +3.5% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.62%; +8.26% 1WK; +21.09% YTD), NGX ASeM Index (+0%), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0%; +2.54% 1WK; -2.31% YTD).
