NGX: Investors records N117.09bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.40%
Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator inched up by 214.97 bps amid positive market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index inched up by 0.40% to close at 54,213.09 basis points as against 0.93% gain recorded previously to close at 53,998.12 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N117.09bn gain.
At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 268,015,363 shares in 4,017 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,354,397,555.30, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, February 2), today’s data shows 71% decline in turnover but 2% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 117 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 35 gainers and 10 losers. FTN Cocoa Processors led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.33 per share, followed by Red Star Express (+10%), International Energy Insurance (+10%) and MRS Oil Nigeria (+9.94%).
On the losing side, Ikeja Hotel came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.99 per share, followed by Lasaco Assurance (-5.88%), Associated Bus Company (-5.41%) and Universal Insurance Company (-4.76%). Universal Insurance Company recorded the highest volume of 63.4 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (20.8m), Transcorp Nigeria (19.5m) and International Energy Insurance (12.8m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 214.97 (0.4%) points to close at 54,213.09, representing a 1-week gain of 2.95%, a 4-week gain of 5.84%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 5.78%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.46%; +2.55% 1WK; +5.62% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.15%; +1.03% 1WK; +4.97% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.06%; +2.49% 1WK; +9.49% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.89%; +3.67% 1WK; +7.32% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.57%; +3.37% 1WK; +7.59% YTD), and NGX Insurance Index (+0.31%; +0.27% 1WK; +3.87% YTD).
