NGX: Investors records N168.82bn lass as ASI depreciates by -0.58%
Nigerian Equities Market retracted to open the week on a negative note at the end of today’s trading session amid positive market breadth.
The NGX All-Share index dipped by -0.58% to close at 53,772.14 basis points as against the +1.76% gain recorded at the end of the previous trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N168.82bn loss.
At the end of the first weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 227,610,015 shares in 4,586 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,997,590,121.84, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, May 27), today’s data shows 9% improvement in volume, 46% decline in turnover, and 6% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29 trillion.
In the aggregate, 109 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 22 gainers and 21 losers. Trans-Nationwide Express led the gainers with 9.86% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.78 per share, followed by UAC of Nigeria (+9.52%), Jaiz Bank (+8.97%) and Livestock Feeds (+6.67%).
On the losing side, Presco came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 162.00 per share, followed by Julius Berger Nigeria (-9.17%), University Press (-8.77%) and FTN Cocoa Processors (-8.57%).
Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 70.1 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (21.2m), Jaiz Bank (16.3m) and Sterling Bank (10.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) dropped 313.16 (-0.58%) points to close at 53,772.14, representing a 1-week gain of 1.63%, a 4-week gain of 10.1%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 25.88%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (-0.8%; -2.48% 1WK; +12.4% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.93%; -2.99% 1WK; +14.12% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.65%; -3.42% 1WK; -8.4% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.07%; -1.07% 1WK; +59.96% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.11%; -0.7% 1WK; +13.34% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.11%; -4.09% 1WK; +12.6% YTD).
