NGX: Investors records N192bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.67%

Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 352.49 bps amid positive market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.67% to close at 52,701.31 basis points as against a 0.31% loss recorded previously to close at 52,348.82 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N192bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 228,487,278 shares in 3,681 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,443,466,132.36, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, January 16), today’s data shows 3% improvement in volume, 37% improvement in turnover, but 29% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 110 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 21 gainers and 15 losers. UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 3.30 per share, followed by MRS Oil Nigeria (+9.93%), Chellarams (+9.92%) and Sunu Assurances Nigeria (+8.82%).
On the losing side, UPDC came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 6.93% at NGN 0.94 per share, followed by Geregu Power (-6.71%), Linkage Assurance (-6.38%) and Royal Exchange (-5.26%). Sterling Bank recorded the highest volume of 76.7 million traded shares, followed by Chams (17.6m), Guaranty Trust Holding (16.8m) and Zenith Bank (11.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 352.49 (0.67%) points to close at 52,701.31, representing a 1-week gain of 2.44%, a 4-week gain of 7.04%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 2.83%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.72%; +2.62% 1WK; +3.31% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.23%; +1.64% 1WK; +3.44% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+1.13%; +2.15% 1WK; +1.52% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.53%; +1.16% 1WK; +7.64% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.45%; +2.12% 1WK; +3.81% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+0.19%; +1.42% 1WK; +4.45% YTD).
