NGX: Investors records N84.23bn gain ASI appreciates by 0.29%
Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator inched up by 154.65 bps amid flat market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index inched up by 0.29% to close at 54,367.74 basis points as against 0.40% gain recorded previously to close at 54,213.09 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N84.23bn gain.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 191,636,475 shares in 4,359 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,798,729,544.62, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, February 3), today’s data shows 28% decline in volume, 104% improvement in turnover, and 9% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.6 trillion.
In the aggregate, 114 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 16 losers.
Sovereign Trust Insurance led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.33 per share, followed by Linkage Assurance (+8.89%), International Energy Insurance (+8.08%) and Industrial & Medical Gases (+4.55%).
On the losing side, McNichols came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.96% at NGN 0.61 per share, followed by Prestige Assurance Company (-8.7%), FTN Cocoa Processors (-6.06%) and Sunu Assurances Nigeria (-5.88%). Guaranty Trust Holding recorded the highest volume of 50.6 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (18m), Chams (16.6m) and United Bank for Africa (14.9m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 154.65 (0.29%) points to close at 54,367.74, representing a 1-week gain of 2.28%, a 4-week gain of 5.17%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 6.08%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.32%; +2.11% 1WK; +5.96% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.06%; +0.58% 1WK; +4.91% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.65%; +4.21% 1WK; +8.02% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.33%; +1.86% 1WK; +4.21% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.07%; +2.67% 1WK; +7.67% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0.03%; +0.07% 1WK; +2.19% YTD).
