Nigeria recalls High Commissioner to UK
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally recalled the country’s envoy to the United Kingdom (UK), Mr. Sarafa Isola.
Mr Isola who serves as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Kingdom, was also requested to take formal leave within 60 days and return to the country by October 31, 2023 latest.
A letter confirming he development signed by Minister of foreign affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and dated August 31, said the Federal Government will not renew the tenure of the UK High Commissioner following its expiration.
“I have the honour to notify you of Mr. President’s decision to recall you, signalling the end of your tenure as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Kingdom.
“By this communication, you are now expected to commence the process of winding down your affairs, and take formal leave of your host government within sixty days and to return to Nigeria by 31 October, 2023 at the lates,” the letter read.
Tuggar thanked the ambassador for his service and wished him well in his future endeavours.
It would be recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Isola as the high commissioner to the UK in January 2021.
Isola had also previously held the role of Minister for Mines and Steel Development under the late former President Musa Yar’Adua.
