Nigerian pro boxing hopeful, Ajagba suffers first loss in 15 professional fights
Nigerian heavyweight boxing hopeful, Efe Ajagba, Sunday morning, suffered first loss in his 15 previously undefeated professional fights, as he lost to Cuban, Frank Sanchez.
Ajagbe lost by the judges’ 98-91, 98-91 and 97-92 unanimous points decision.
The fight was an undercard in the heavyweight title trilogy showdown between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.
The 27-year-old Nigerian Olympian could not land a clean right hand punch which he is known for, while Sanchez ran riot with steady stiff jabs.
Sanchez outclassed Ajagba in a battle of unbeaten rivals and he floored the Nigerian in the seventh round while sealing a unanimous decision.
With the win in the 10-round fight, Sanchez remains undefeated and retains his WBO NABO, and WBC Continental Americas Heavyweight titles.
Sanchez’s win edges the Cuban contender closer in the rankings towards a world heavyweight title shot at Oleksandr Usyk’s WBO belt, or the WBC title held by Fury.
Ajagba, who was unbeaten in 15 previous matches before facing Sanchez, missed a shot at a title fight.
