Nigeria’s equities market bullish, as NGXASI appreciates by 0.03%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Monday as the NGX-ASI increased to 97,747.27 from 97,722.28 recorded at the close of the previous trading day, indicating a YTD return of +30.72%.
Market capitalization increased by N15.27 billion to N59.231 trillion from N59.215 trillion recorded at the previous trading day’s close. The market turnover however decreased to N5.336 billion from N6.768 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading , a total of 413,350,004 shares in 9,004 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,336,321,823.13, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, November 15), today’s data shows 40% improvement in volume, 21% decline in turnover, but 7% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 59.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 124 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 29 gainers and 21 losers. John Holt led the gainers with 9.97% share price appreciation closing at NGN 8.49 per share, followed by Beta Glass Company (+9.92%), Eunisell Interlinked (+9.92%) and Lafarge Wapco (+9.52%). On the losing side, MeCure Industries came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.65% at NGN 11.70 per share, followed by The Initiates (-9.09%), Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (-8.85%) and University Press (-7.83%). Japaul Gold and Ventures recorded the highest volume of 179 million traded shares, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Holdings (36.8m), Access Holdings (31.7m) and United Bank for Africa (17.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 24.99 (0.03%) points to close at 97,747.27, representing a 1-week gain of 0.38%, a 4-week loss of 0.96%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.72%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.01%; +0.53% 1WK; +31.86% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.66%; +0.5% 1WK; +27.83% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.42%; +3.03% 1WK; +43.93% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.19%; +1.5% 1WK; +27.23% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.05%; -0.08% 1WK; +37.2% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (-0.08%; -0.52% 1WK; +132.2% YTD).
