NIS declares state-of-emergency on ‘passport crisis’
Newly-appointed Acting Comptroller General (A-CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju has declared a state of emergency on the country’s passport crisis.
This is also Mrs Adepoju directed personnel of the service to ‘to work tirelessly towards eliminating all hindrances preventing Nigerians from accessing Passports promptly.’
Adepoju stated this during a working visit to Lagos, emphasizing the urgent need to address challenges faced by Nigerians in obtaining rhe international passports.
A statement signed by the NIS Spokesperson, Mr. Tony Akuneme, also disclosed that the Acting CGI ‘has developed a comprehensive plan of action to tackle these issues effectively.’
The Nigeria Immigration boss earlier directed all Passport Control Officers, relevant units and personnel within the NIS including foreign missions, to work tirelessly towards eliminating all hindrances preventing Nigerians from accessing Passports promptly.
“The Ag. CGI urges all Nigerians to remain patient and cooperate with the NIS as it takes decisive steps to address the Passport crisis, assuring the public that efforts are being made to ensure that every eligible Nigerian who requires a passport can obtain one in a timely manner,” she said.
