Nnamchi tasks NASS leadership on sustainable development
The new leadership of the National Assembly has been required to drive systems and process that would restore the nation on the paths of economic recovery and sustainable growth.
The Honorable Member representing Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency in the 10th NASS, Prof Paul Sunday Nnamchi, who congratulated the newly appointed principal officers of the House of Representatives, also urged them to ensure progress in nation building and development.
The principal officers include Hon (Prof) Julius Ihovbere as the new House Majority Leader, Halims Abdullahi as Deputy Majority Leader, Bello Kumo as the new Chief Whip and Adewumni Onanuga as Deputy Chief Whip.
Others are Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Abia Central, as Senate Minority Whip, as the Labour Party clinches all the principal offices in the Enugu State House of Assembly.
Among them are Kingsley Chinda as Minority Leader, Aliyu Madaki as Deputy Minority Leader, Ali Isah as Minority Whip and Labour Party’s first House leadership position of Deputy Minority Whip, George Ozodinobi.
Following the landslide emergence, Nnamchi called on the House Leadership, Speaker Tajudeen Abass, to ensure effective cohesion, constructive and result-oriented deliberations.
The member emphasised the need to work towards entrenching the values of mutual respect, justice, equity and fairness especially owing to the composition of the 10th Assembly.
Nnamchi further expressed confidence that the appointees would speedily and effectively proceed with legislation, deliberation, and oversight for the nation’s benefit.
He, however, urged the new leadership not to let the hope and faith of the electorate fail.
Nnamchi urged the new leaders to ensure the House is constantly on the right path to progress as the business of effective representation is of paramount importance.
On his part, the lawmaker expressed an unwavering commitment to listen to the people’s yearnings and engage and work with his colleagues in the House and the Executive at the federal and state levels.
He also noted his readiness to synergise with lawmakers in the State House of Assembly to foster development and progress, thereby attracting democracy dividends to his constituency and Enugu state.
