NNPC blames low loadouts at depots, as fuel queues re-emerge
Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has said it will increase the number of load outs at depots, following the re-emergence of fuel queues at various petrol stations in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), weekend.
The company which blamed the fresh scarcity on low loadouts, explained that the situation usually happens during long public holidays.
A statement issued by the General Manager Group Public Affairs, of NNPC Ltd, Garba Deen Mohammed via the company’s Twitter handle (@NNPCgroup), said that the increased fuel purchases which is also usual with returning residents of the FCT from the public holidays is also another factor contributing to the sudden emergence of fuel queues in the FCT.
According to him the NNPC and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority in conjunction with the marketing country partners have taken necessary measures to ramp up loadouts from all depots.
He assured all residents of the FCT, and indeed all Nigerians, that the company has ample local supplies and national stock in excess of 2.5 billion liters, with sufficiency of more than 43 days.
“The NNPC Ltd hereby advises motorists not to engage in panic buying as supplies are adequate as will become increasingly evident in the coming days,” read the tweet.
