NNPC returns to old structure, scraps COO position

Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has consolidated on its traditional administrative structure with the reinstallation of the designation of Group Executive Director for its divisional heads.

Chief Operating Officer positions in the Corporation have now been redesignated as Group Executive Directors (GEDs), “in alignment with the rules of Company & Allied Matters Act (CAMA), preparatory to the new status of the Corporation as a Limited Liability Company, post-Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).”

The restructuring which the Group General Manager in charge of Group Public Affairs Division, Dr. Kennie Obateru, said is preparatory to imminent pan industry reforms also came with key staff promotions, redeployments and retirements.
Among the changes are the appointment of Mr Billy Okoye as the new Group Executive Director in charge of Ventures & Business Development; and the promotion of Mrs. Aisha Ahmadu-Katagum to the position of Group Executive Director, Corporate Services.
Chief Operating Officer, Business & Ventures Development, Engr. Adeyemi Adetunji, becomes the Group Executive Director in charge of Downstream Division; and Chief Operating Officer in charge of Corporate Services Divison, Mr. Mohammed Abdulkabir Ahmed, becomes the Group Executive Director in charge of Gas & Power Dvision.
The repositioning also saw the disengagement of Engr. Yusuf Usman, formerly Chief Operating Officer in charge of Gas & Power; and replacement of Dr. Kennie Obateru with Mr. Garba Deen Muhammad as the Group General Manager in the Group Public Affairs Division of the corporation.
Dr Obateru explained that the changes came in a bid to strengthen and reposition the corporation towards attaining global excellence and profitability.
Mr. Okoye was until now the Group General Manager in charge of Crude Oil Marketing Division (COMD) of the corporation while Mrs. Ahmadu-Katagum was Group General Manager in charge of Supply Chain Management Division in the Corporation.
Speaking on the Development, Group Managing Director of the Corporation, Mallam Mele Kyari, said the new appointments would enable the NNPC live up to the expectations of Nigerians and achieve its vision of becoming a world-class energy company of choice.
