No surprises, as Ogun, Lagos councils’ polls results trickle in
Ruling party in Lagos and Ogun, the All Progressives Congress (APC) looks set to return to control of the Local Government Areas in the states going by the initial results from the conduct of the Saturday’s election for chairmen of the councils.
So far in Lagos, the state’s Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has announced the results for four out of the 20 local government areas in the state with APC winning all.
LASIEC chairman, Mr Olumide Metilelu, Saturday, declared the APC winner of chairmanship election in Ikorodu Local Government Area.
According to Metilelu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Hassan Rafiu, had a total of 1497 votes, while Mr Wasiu Adesina of APC had 4729 votes.
Adesina was declared winner of the chairmanship election in Ikorodu LG, by the retuning officer.
“Having complied with the requirement of the law and scored the majority number of votes, Wasiu Adesina is hereby decleared elected and returned as chairman of Ikorodu.
Similarly, candidates of the ruling APC won the council polls in Badagry, Epe, Agege local government areas of Lagos.
LASIEC declared Mr Olusegun Onilude, the incumbent APC Chairman of the Badagry Local Council, the winner.
LASIEC announced that Mr Joseph Gbenu, also of the APC was re-elected the Chairman of the Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
Olusegun Onilude Onilude polled 8,065 votes to beat PDP’s Monday Honfovu who scored 2,118 votes.
Gbenu of APC polled 4,339 votes while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Kolawole Abraham, scored 739 votes.
All the 10 councillors seats in Badagry LGA were won by the APC.
In Epe Local government, the returning officer, LASIEC, Mr Shamsideen Ladega, declared Ms Surah Animashaun of APC winner.
Surah is the daughter of Oba Kamorudeen Animashaun of Epeland.
According to Ladega, the winner scored 11,232 votes to floor the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate who scored 896 votes.
In Agege local government, the incumbent, Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, has been reelected as the council chairman with 6,226 votes.
Egunjobi, APC’s candidate, defeated Mr Olusola Osolana of the PDP, who got 4,114 votes.
Mr Salami Ojo, the Returning Officer, LASIEC said that Egunjobi, having complied with the requirements of the election, had been and thus returned.
For Ogun LGAs poll results, the state’s Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) released the results of the 2021 Local Government elections for the Chairmanship position for Sagamu and four other Local Government Areas in the State, with the All Progressives Congress (APC), winning all.
The results for the five Local Government so far announced by the Commission’s Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu at its headquarters in Abeokuta, indicated that Odulate Olashile of the All Progressives Congress emerged winner for Sagamu Local Government after garnering 20, 935 valid votes, while Ajayi Olaoye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and David Sunday of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) secured 930 and 359 votes respectively.
Other results announced by Osibodu showed that, for Ijebu- East, Mr. Adewale Saliu Adedayo, also of APC, defeated his closest rival, Sanusi Sulaimon of PDP, who secured 3,044 votes, with a total valid vote of 9,960, while Johnson Omolara of NNPP scored zero vote and Zacheus Adewale of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), also had zero vote.
For Ijebu North, APC’s Odusanya Omobolaji came top with 25, 701 valid vote cast, defeating Afosi Morenikeji of NNPP and Sobowale Onabanjo, who amassed 594 and 1927 votes respectively.
Similarly, APC candidate in Ijebu North East, Folusho Badejo clinched 8,368 total vote cast to defeat PDP’s Odusanya Olukeke, who had 573 total vote cast, just as Odunsi Adedapo of the APC garnered 9,475 total vote cast to defeat the PDP’s candidate, Obatunde Hakeem, who scored 604 votes.

UPDATED: More results from Ogun LGAs poll
Meanwhile, more results have emerged from Saturday, June 24 Local Government poll for chairmanship seats as the APC expectedly win more positions.
According to the announcement of the chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Babatunde Osibodu, the APC has further claimed 17 of the 20 local councils in the recent polls.
OGSIEC listed the names of some of the APC candidates who emerged victorious as Wale Adedayo (polled 9,660, Ijebu East); Babatunde Emilola – Gazal ( polled 6,178, Ijebu – Ode), Odulate Olashile (polled 20,925 Sagamu); Shuab Ladejobi (polled 14,985 Odogbolu) and Odusanya Bolaji (polled 25,701 Ijebu-North).
Speaking on the conduct of the exercise, Osibodu noted that it is one of the most peaceful, credible, and fair elections in the state.
Results for the remaining three LGAs – Ado/Odo/Ota, Ifo, and Abeokuta- are expected.
