NSITF set to shine at Lagos International Trade Fair, holds Special Day Wednesday

The Lagos Region of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) is set to take the spotlight at the ongoing Lagos International Trade Fair, as it hosts its Special Day on Wednesday, November 12, at the Banquet Hall, Tafawa Balewa Square Complex, Lagos Island.
The NSITF, which is exhibiting at Hall B, Stand 38–41, is using the fair to enlighten Nigerians about its critical role in providing social protection for workers and employers across the country. Visitors to the agency’s stand will have the opportunity to learn first-hand about its operations, benefits, and how to register for the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS).
According to the agency, the NSITF Special Day will feature interactive sessions and presentations explaining “the nitty-gritty” of its services and the importance of compliance with the Employee Compensation Act (ECA) 2010.
Protecting Workers, Supporting Employers
The NSITF is Nigeria’s foremost social insurance agency responsible for implementing the Employees’ Compensation Scheme, which provides financial and medical support to workers who suffer job-related injuries, diseases, or death.
Under the scheme, employers contribute a small percentage of their payroll to a pooled fund that ensures prompt compensation and rehabilitation for affected employees or their dependents.
Key benefits include:
Payment of medical expenses for injured employees
Vocational rehabilitation to help victims return to work
Compensation to families in the event of a worker’s death, including educational support for children
The scheme applies to both the public and private sectors, making it a national safety net for Nigeria’s workforce.
Driving Awareness and Compliance
An important part of the NSITF’s message at the Trade Fair is the need for employer compliance. Businesses bidding for government or large private contracts are often required to present a valid NSITF Compliance Certificate, which verifies participation in the Employees’ Compensation Scheme.
Employers can easily register by obtaining the NSITF ECS RE01 Form from any local office and can also verify certificates online via the agency’s official website.
Engaging the Public
Through its participation in the Lagos International Trade Fair, the NSITF aims to bring its message closer to the public — that employee welfare is not just a legal requirement but a moral obligation and economic necessity.
The agency encourages all employers, business owners, and members of the public to visit its stand at Hall B (Stands 38–41) for one-on-one engagement and guidance on registration, compliance, and claims processes.
