Nwifuru emerges Ebonyi APC governorship candidate

The Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has been elected the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, after polling a total of 743 votes ahead of other Aspirants.
A total of five aspirants that contested the governorship candidacy election are the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon Francis Nwifuru; a former Chairman of Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission, Engr Elias Mbam; a former Senator who represented Ebonyi Central Zone, Sen. Julius Ucha; Arc. Edward Nkwegu; and Mrs Chinyere Ofoke.
Mrs Rosemary Ofoke Nwogbaga who came a distant second garnered 63 votes, while Senator Julius Ali Ucha who came third scored 22 votes.
Others are: a former Chairman, Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Chief Elias Mbam, who scored 10 votes and Sir Edward Nkwegu with 8 votes.
A total of 8 votes were declared invalid.
The governorship primary election took place on Thursday at Pa Ngele Oruta township stadium Abakaliki.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agencies were on hand to monitor the exercise.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Prof. Adebayo Emmanuel, expressed happiness over the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
Adebayo also commended all the participants in the primary election for showing high level of transparency and orderliness throughout the exercise.
The Oracle Today reports that the Ebonyi State Chapter of APC began its governorship primary election to elect the party’s flag bearer in the State ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The governorship primary is holding at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium Abakaliki.
Our Correspondent reports that five delegates in each of the 171 wards of the state participated in the exercise.
The delegates were screened in designated centres within the Abakaliki capital before they were brought to the election venue.
The governorship primary election was chaired by Prof. Adebayo Emmanuel.
