Obi Cubana in EFCC custody over suspected money laundering, tax fraud
Businessman and socialite, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu (popularly called, Obi Cubana), has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations bothering on tax fraud and money laundering.
Obi Cubana was guest of the anti-graft agency upon invitation to appear for questioning. However, the businessman was detained after hours of interrogation over the alleged offences.
The businessman arrived at the headquarters of the commission at Jabi in Abuja, Monday afternoon, according to sources. But, as at late Monday evening, the night club owner was still at the agency’s custody.
Spokesman of the Commission, Wilson Uwujaren, said he was yet to be briefed on the development.
Although Obi Cubana, owner of the Cubana chain of night clubs, was a household name in social circles, he got more popular during the burial of his mother in July.
The burial, which held in Oba, a community in Anambra State, was the talk of town for a while.
