Obi emerges ‘most searched topic’ on Google in Nigeria for first half of 2022
Google Nigeria has disclosed that Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Dr Peter Obi, alongside Russian President, Mr Vladimir Putin, and wife of the late Odumegwu Ojukwu, the Biafran leader, Mrs Bianca Ojukwu, was three of the ‘most searched topics’ on its search engine, Google, in the first half of 2022.
Google Nigeria in a statement, released, Thursday, said the three were the most searched on its search engine with Dr Obi being top on the list among its Nigerian users.
While Google said Obi was top on the list, it added that President Putin came second, while Bianca Ojukwu finished third in that order.
Obi’s rise to national popularity took off after his emergence as the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party last month, while Putin search may not be unconnected with the Ukraine invasion which he ordered in February, this year.
Bianca’s popularity is largely due to her role in the famous slapping incident which took place during the official inauguration of Dr Charles Soludo as the new Governor of Anambra, taking over from Chief Willie Obiano, whose wife, Ebelechuckwu was at the receiving end of the slap from Bianca, who is also a chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state.
The ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) which has lingered for five months was also cited by Google Nigeria as a top trending topic.
Other highlights by Google Nigeria include the death of famous Nigerian Gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu; as well as that of another gospel singer, Chinedu Nwadike.
In the entertainment circle, Buga, a song by Kizz Daniel and Tekno, is the number one trending song in the period under review, while ‘Blood sisters,’ a Nigerian drama series on Netflix topped the list of trending movies and TV Series by Nigerians from January to June 2022.
Also, Olu Jacobs, the veteran Nollywood actor who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, led the list of top trending actors in Nigeria, while British footballer, Raheem Sterling’s move from Manchester City to Chelsea FC shot him to the top trending sports personality in Nigeria.
