ObiDatti supporters light up Uyo, Bauchi, Zaria, Benin, Aba, Asaba in Saturday rallies (+videos)
Supporters of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate in the 2023 General Elections, Dr Peter Obi and his running mate, Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed staged their rallies in Benin City, in Edo, Bauchi in Bauchi State, Kaduna City in Kaduna State as well as in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, Aba in Abia State, and Asaba in Delta.
This is as Nigerians rallied support for the ObiDatti ticket in the 2023 General Elections.
In Bauchi, supporters, who trekked 10 kilometers from the popular Wunti market to Rafin Zurfi, a community in the Bauchi metropolis, were seen with placards with different inscriptions supporting their candidates.
Head of Media, Labour Party, Bauchi State chapter, Mr. Benjamin Edeh, said that the rally was a success, adding that the people of the state were at the rally to show the party true love.
“They want to show Peter Obi love, they want to show the Labour Party love. They are really in love with the movement.
“The rally was really a success as you can see that the crowd was very close to a million. It was massive.
“They say we don’t have structure, they say we don’t have money, but you can see the crowd,” he said.
Also, Chairman of the party, Mr Hussaini Saraki, said that they had proved critics wrong and that the party has no structures.
“The facts speak for itself, when you say we don’t have structure, today we have proved them wrong because we believe structure is not about building.
“Structure is not all about posters or billboards. Structures are the people, and we have the people on the ground.
“And I am telling you this is because there was not much publicity about this event; some of our people in the rural areas are not here. But you can see that the crowd is so massive that each and everyone of you here is proud of it.
“We are sending a message back to those people who say we don’t have structure or we only exist on social media that we are real and that Nigeria belongs to the youth,” he said.
In Asaba, the Delta State capital, supporters organised a road walk to galvanise voter for the Obi-Datti ticket in next year’s election.
They gathered at the popular Inter Bau Flyover at 9.am, and moved through West End, Nnebisi to the popular Ogbogonogo Market where they headed back to Inter Bau to disperse.
Incidentally, the Kaduna rally was initially announced as cancelled by the Labour Party, which had cited intelligence reports, as reasons for moving the event by two weeks.
However, the Obi-Datti supporters could not wait as they turned out in their thousands onto the major streets of Zaria, the second largest city in the state to rally support for their candidate.
Datti Baba-Ahmed hails from Kaduna State.
Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai had earlier denied the supporters the opportunity to stage the much-anticipated rally, as he claimed intelligence reports from the police suggested that terrorists may hijack the event.
