Organised labour protest in Ebonyi over fuel subsidy removal

The Organized Labour Unions comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and other affiliate Unions in Ebonyi State on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest over the removal of fuel subsidy which has led to hike in PMS across the country.

The workers lamented the removal of fuel subsidy which they said had brought untold hardships to Nigerians.

The Chairman of NLC in the the State, Comrade Ogugua Egwu and his TUC counterpart, Comrade Chidi Igboji, led the peaceful protest, which commenced from Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium..

Security agents were on hand to guard the protesters.

They carried placards with several inscriptions, such as “let the poor breathe, stop anti-people policies, Nigerian workers are suffering”, among other inscriptions.

In his address, Chairman of NLC, Comrade Egwu Ogugua said they were on ground to demonstrate their displeasure over the anti-people policies of the Federal Government.

He said: “we say no to excess hikes in fuel subsidy that has skyrocketed the cost of living.

“We need to move let our voices be heard, let them stop putting their knees on our neck, let them stop intimidating and oppressing us.

“Nigerian people, Nigerian workers, we must breath. We must shine, we need to shine, we need to move”.
