Otti enlarges ABSU Governing Council with 7 new members

Governor Alex Otti has enlarged the Governing Council of Abia State University (ABSU) with the appointment of seven new members.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Citizen Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, who made this known in a statement he released in Umuahia, Monday afternoon, named a former National Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Barr. Monday Ubani (SAN), as one of the new Council members.
Others are Rt. Rev. Ikechi Nwosu (Ph.D), the retired Archbishop of Umuahia Archdiocese Diocese of Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Ikechu Nwosu; the immediate past Mayour of Isialngwa South Local Government Area, Dr. Elelenta Nwabuisi Elele; Stanley Onyekachi Okonta and Idris Korform Wabara.
The rest are Engr. Kalu Nto and Chinyere Juliet Okeziem-Nwoko.
“These appointees will join other statutory members of the Council who had been earlier announced to run the board of the University. These appointments take immediate effect,” Ukoha stated.
Recall that Abia State began the implementation of the White Paper on the report of the Visitation Panel to ABSU in October this year which led to the removal of some principal officers, including the then Vice Chancellor, Prof. Maxwell Ogbulu, and the appointment of Prof. Ndukwe Okeudo as his replacement, among othe changes.
The government has also abolished the multi-campus system of the university. Consequently, it has ordered students at the Umuahia Campus to move relocate to the Utiru Main Campus. However, it says thst the Engineering Campus atAba would remain.
Government said the ongoing transformation in the institution was aimed at making it a world-class university.
