Hon Pius Abang Besong has been declared winner of the just-concluded Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives re-run primary elections for Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency in Cross River State.
The rerun primary election was conducted in deference to a Federal High Court Judgment in Calabar which nullified the earlier poll conducted by the party.
The Court presided over by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu had nullified the primary poll which produced Attah Ochinke, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state.
She said the electoral act was violated in the conduct of the earlier primary before nullifying the election and thereafter, ordered a rerun.
In the rerun primary, Abang scored 37 votes to beat his opponent Attah Ochinke who scored 30 votes.
Declaring the result of the House of Reps re-run election at Ikom Local Government Area, Returning Officer for the poll, Barr. Ike Ogbogu urged the contestants to take the result in good fate and if possible prepare themselves properly in other subsequent elections which they may go into.
Reacting to his victory, Abang promised to work very hard to ensure that he emerges victorious in the general elections.
“I shall carry out my campaign with dignity. My greatest appeal is that a party men should join hands with me to ensure that a PDP candidate emerges the winner in the House of Reps election coming up in 2023.
“I appeal to all party men and women of good will to join hands with me to ensure that a PDP candidate emerges winner in the final analysis”, he said.
Attah Ochinke on his part said, “what you see or heard is result of the election. I have nothing to say more than this.”
