Asiforo explained that the Elders’ Committee of the Party was created by Section 23 (1) of the PDP Constitution with about 90% of the membership provided statutorily.
According to him, the inauguration of the Committee was part of the steps being taken by the current State Executive of the party to strengthen the party by bringing all organs of the party into full existence.
He stated that the main objective of the party in the State “is to retain the seat of the Governor by 2023, recover all lost seats and consolidate on the seats won by the party.”
The Abia PDP Chairman recounted that so far, the current State Executive has recorded huge successes by the landslide victory in the last Local Government elections, as well as the recovery of the Aba Federal Constituency seat.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, commended the State PDP for standing strong and assured that there was no cause for alarm in the build up to the 2023 elections as the PDP remains the party of choice in Abia State.
He advised those seeking elective positions under the party to pursue their aspirations decently and avoid acts that could tear the party apart.
He used the opportunity to reassure the people of the state of his resolve to complete key projects embarked upon by his administration before he leaves office.
Ikpeazu told the gathering that sufficient funds have been made available to contractors handling major projects, promising that the first quarter of this year would witness lots of construction activities in the State.
According to the Governor, roads like Faulks Road, Azikiwe Road, Omuma, Eziukwu, Cemetery, Ngwa Road, Ohanku, Obohia, ABSUTH – Udeagbala Road, Aba Owerri Road, Uratta road, Port Harcourt Road and others were all in the completion dashboard for this first three months of this year, including the Osisioma flyover project.
He added that other key projects commenced by the previous administration like the New Government House, ASUBEB Headquarters and the JAAC Building, would equally be completed.
Ikpeazu also assured that major roads in Umuahia, the State capital would be given fresh asphalt coatings “in the coming days and weeks to improve their longevity.”
