PDP: Bala Mohammed meets Atiku in Abuja amid rift rumour
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Tuesday led a delegation of the state stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Abuja, on a courtesy visit to the PDP Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in honour of an invitation by the National Chairman of the party.
The meeting held amid unconfirmed reports that the Bauchi Governor was mulling withdrawing his support for Atiku’s 2023 presidential bid.
Mohammed had sent a letter to the party chairman Iyorchia Ayu that accused Atiku of looking away as crises consumed the party’s structure in Bauchi. It was unclear whether or not Atiku was queried over the letter, but he did not issue a public response addressing Mr Mohammed’s complaints.
“Today, I led a delegation of Bauchi State stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to Abuja on a courtesy visit to the PDP Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,” Mohammed said in a statement.
“Key to our discussion were issues relating to the progress of our great party.”
Members of the delegation were Senators Bala Kariya and Adamu Gumba, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Abubakar Sulaiman and PPS, Samaila Burga. Issues related to unity and the progress of the Party were discussed and amicably addressed.
In attendance were Mr Ayu, DG PDP Presidential Campaign Council and Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and former governor of Jigawa Sule Lamido.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, spokesperson of the Atiku campaign, Dino Melaye, said Mohammed remained strongly in support of the Atiku campaign.
