PDP NEC ratifies zoning of National Chairmanship position to North
National Executive Committee (NEC) of the main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved recommendation of its zoning committee which had recommended the position of national chairmanship of the party be zoned to the North.
The 94th Emergency NEC meeting held inside the NEC Hall, Wadata Plaza, National Secretariat in Abuja, Thursday.
The zoning committee chaired by Enugu Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi had recommended the zoning of the party chairman’s slot be allotted to the North.
That recommendation was further approved by the PDP Governors’ Forum which at its meeting inside the Residential Lodge of the Akwa Ibom in Abuja had voted 9-3 in favour of the position going to the North.
The implication means that the PDP will now commence shopping for Presidential candidate to fly the party’s flag at the 2023 Presidential Election from the South.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, who briefed journalists about the decision after the NEC meeting, said based on the decision, all positions in the party currently occupied by people from the South will go to the North and those occupied by people from the North will go to the South.
The PDP NEC also retained the scheduled date for the party’s convention which has been slated for October 30 and 31.
Party chieftains who attended the 94th Emergency NEC meeting in Abuja included; former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Governors Godwin Obaseki (Edo) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state.
Others are; Governors Nyesom Wike, Bala Mohammed, Ifeanyi Okowa, Samuel Ortom and Douye Diri of Rivers, Bauchi, Delta, Benue and Bayelsa states respectively
The meeting which held inside the NEC Hall, Wadata Plaza, National Secretariat of the party adopted the zoning recommendation of party offices ahead of the October 31 national elective convention.
