PEPT denies fixing Sept 16 to deliver judgement on Atiku, Obi petitions
Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) sitting at the Court of Appeal headquarters in Abuja has denied fixing September 16 as date to rule in the petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) and their respective candidates in the February 25 elections; Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
The rebuttal followed viral reports trending on social media, Monday, claiming that the tribunal had concluded plans to rule on the disputed election results on the said date.
Reacting to the development, the Secretary of the PEPT Panel, Barrister Josephine J. Ekperobe, dismissed the viral post, dismissed the claims, saying the tribunal has not fixed a date yet to rule on the petitions against President Bola Tinubu and three other respondents, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Vice President Kashim Shettima, and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
.“No date yet,” Ekperobe responded to inquiries, Monday.
Multiple sources claimed on Monday that the tribunal has now allegedly picked September 16 as the judgment date.
The tribunal had reserved judgment at its last sitting, as it told the respondents and petitioners to await a date for final judgement.
The tribunal has till 140 days to deliver judgment from the date of its first sitting.
