As part of the celebration of this year’s children’s day and in line with it’s cooperate social responsibility, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc held a variety day for children.
The variety day attracted over two hundred children from the 6 regions in the Port Harcourt Franchise Area.
At least twelve schools were represented in the festivity including children of PHED staff and took place at the headquarters of the organization along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt.
A number of competitions were held including Spelling bee, cultural dance and the match past was one of the highlights as it featured children from various schools participating in the same team.
The idea of the variety day was not to engage in a competitive event but to bring children from various backgrounds to have fun and build team spirit.
Speaking on the idea behind the celebration, the acting managing director and chief executive officer of the organization, Ochuko Amah said children are a gift from God.
She said it’s important to celebrate them as it shows them the path to success.
In her words, “Children are a gift, the future of Nigeria. We are working for them and ensuring they have a future.
‘When you begin to celebrate them, you are showing them the path to success.
“You need to let them know they are important and that they are the future of the nation”, she said.
She emphasized that the PHED is a customer centric organisation and it has been a part of their cooperate social responsibility to celebrate children.
According to her, their goal is to reach out to customers in various ways and ensure that they are not just after collections but providing the best of services.
