Police confirm arrest of Ikeotuonye, say suspect under investigation for defrauding Ebonyi govt

Police in Ebonyi State have stated that one Jackie Ikeotuonye, the CEO Andrew Bishopton Ltd, is under investigation for defrauding the Ebonyi State Government to the tune of N50 million.
The police said the claim by Ikeotuonye that the Governor of Ebonyi State initiated her arrest using the police after she purportedly won a case against the Governor in court, was false.
The State police Command in a statement signed by SP Chris Anyanwu, on Tuesday disclosed this to Journalists.
The statement said, contrary to Ikeotuonye’s claim, she was arrested by the police for defrauding the Ebonyi State Government to the tune of fifty million naira in the pretence of being a Consultant on Recovery of Funds contrary to Section 1 of Advance Fee Fraud Cap A6. Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2006.
According to the statement, a Warrant of Arrest duly issued by the High Court of Ebonyi State of Nigeria was used to apprehend the aforesaid suspect.
“The attention of Ebonyi State Police Command has been drawn to a publication on social media and other fora, in which a certain Jackie Ikeotuonye. the CEO Andrew Bishopton Ltd lamented that His Excellency the Governor of Ebonyi State initiated her arrest using the police after she purportedly won a case against the Governor in court.
“It has therefore become pertinent to state the following facts with respect to the above campaign of calumny which is meant to curry unnecessary empathy in favor of the said suspect.
“Jackie Ikeotuonye is a suspect in a case of Advance Fee Fraud.
“She allegedly defrauded the Ebonyi State Government to the tune of fifty million naira in the pretence of being a Consultant on Recovery of Funds contrary to Section 1 of Advance Fee Fraud Cap A6. Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2006.
“A Warrant of Arrest duly issued by the High Court of Ebonyi State of Nigeria was used to apprehend the aforesaid suspect.
“The case before the Ebonyi State Police Command against Jackie Ikeotuonye is a pure criminal case devoid of any civil litigation.
“The relevant investigative outfit of Ebonyi State Police Command has swung into action and will carry out a scrupulous and objective investigation in a most professional manner to ensure that justice prevails.
“Finally, be assured of the impeccable trust and integrity that abound in the leadership of Ebonyi State Police Command under the watch of CP Aliyu Garba, psco, please”, the statement read.
