Police confirm attack, killing of two APC chieftains in Enugu

Enugu Police Command has confirmed the killing of two chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Mr Kelvin Nnaemeka Ezeoha and Mr Chidera Ogaba, by hoodlums at the party’s secretariat at Obeagu Ward 3 in Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area in Enugu State on Monday.
The hoodlums also injured other party members.
The police also rescued another member of the APC, Mr Mike Ogbonna who was abducted by the attackers during the incident.
The gunmen who were said to be enforcing a sit-at-home attacked the Enugu South local government office of the All Progressives Congress (APC} during a meeting of party members, killing Ezeoha, a former party chairman of the council.
A statement by the police command’s spokesman, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, said the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, Abubakar Lawal visited the scene of the incident on Wednesday.
“The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Abubakar Lawal today visited scene of the alleged incident of invasion, shooting, injury, murder and abduction, by yet-to-be identified armed hoodlums, at Obeagu Ward 3 Party Secretariat of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Obeagu-Awkunanaw community of Enugu South LGA, while the Party’s members were having a political meeting on 18/01/2022 at about 7pm. He also visited one seriously injured victim in the hospital where he is receiving treatment.
“In view of this, the CP has ordered the immediate launch of discreet investigation, rescue of one Mike Ogbonna (alias “Okwadike”), alleged to have been abducted to an unknown destination during the invasion, and the manhunt of the assailants, who are said to have shot sporadically and murdered two male members of the Party, one Kelvin Nnaemeka Ezeoha (former Enugu South council’s APC Chairman) and Chidera Ogaba, as well as seriously injured one other.
“Meanwhile, the victims were immediately moved to a nearby hospital, where Kelvin Nnaemeka Ezeoha and Chidera Ogaba, were both confirmed dead by medical doctors and deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the injured victim is responding to treatment,” he said.
The police spokesman said the CP had assured that no stone would be left unturned in fishing out perpetrators of the heinous crime, and further urged political parties in the State and their members, to ensure they timely notify the Command of their meetings or other political activities, to enable it plan and ensure adequate security coverage of such events, in order to avert untoward incidents.
