Police confirm beheading of 70yr-old Labour Party chieftain in Abia
Abia Police Command has confirmed the killing of Campaign Director for the Labour Party during the 2023 General Elections in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of the state, Mr Zachary Maduka.
Mr. Maduka, a 70-year-old native of Ezieke Akpukpa village, was reportedly beheaded by yet-to-be identified men, Wednesday night.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, who confirmed the incident in a statement, Thursday, disclosed that that investigation into the incident is ongoing to unravel those behind the dastardly act.
“Mr. Maduka was violently attacked, shot, and beheaded by unidentified assailants while he was at a drinking joint in Amelechi Akpukpa community.
“Upon receiving this distressing information, a joint team comprising police and army personnel were swiftly dispatched to the scene.
“Tragically, they recovered Mr. Maduka’s lifeless body. Photographic evidence was captured at the scene, and the deceased’s remains were promptly evacuated and deposited at Marist Mortuary Uturu”.
Maduka was also the home branch chairman of Uturu Development Union.
It was gathered that the assailants numbering about 10 wielded pump action guns, cutlasses, and several other weapons had shot him dead at a drinking spot located in Amelechi Akpukpa community.
The victim was reportedly dragged on the floor before he was finally beheaded and his head taken away by his assailants.
