Police confirm pastor killed, as Dunamis Church collapses
Police in Benue have confirmed one person dead following the collapse, early Tuesday, of a building belonging to the church located at Mission Ward North Bank in Makurdi, the state capital, collapsed, killing at least one person, said to be a Resident Pastor at the ministry.
Dunamis Church is owned by Dr. Paul Enenche.
Reacting to the incident, Police Public Relations Officer for the State Police Command, Anene Sewuese Catherine, confirmed the collapse of the building, saying one person died in the accident.
“Only one person has been confirmed dead for now,” she said, while not disclosing the cause of the collapse of the structure.
Meanwhile, reacting to the incident while on a tour of the site of the collapsed building, State Governor, Fr Hayicnth Alia, berated the church for erecting a substandard structure.
Speaking when he visited the site, the Governor expressed disappointment that he did not meet any of the leaders of the church on ground, noting that the building was poorly constructed and would be revoked.
“We have to locate where the leadership of the church is and to inform them that the land has been revoked because we have to save lives.
“Those living along the waterways would vacate immediately.
“So the Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development should step in.
“I need to know who approved this structure. We need to know the engineers or the architects who monitored this gigantic project.
“We need to stop these from happening.”
