Politicians behind insecurity in Ebonyi, says security consultant
[From CHINEDU NWAFOR, Abakaliki]
Security Consultant to Ebonyi State government, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, said desperate politicians were behind those causing pockets of security challenges currently being witnessed in some parts of the State.
Emegha disclosed this in a chat with Journalists on Sunday, at his Abakaliki residence to mark his 51st birthday celebration, said those involved had been identified and warned to desist from their actions or face the consequences, any time soon.
“Most of the little security issues we record here have some political undertone. You know, we are approaching electioneering period, a lot of desperate politicians want to blackmail the government.
“We are in charge of security, we dig deep and know a lot of things that are happening, just that we do not want to make everything known to the Media.
“Few days ago, we arrested a lot of people in connection to crimes in the State and a lot of the crimes being committed, have political hands in them.
“But very soon, the government of Ebonyi State will put a stop to these things. We know exactly the people to touch and it will stop.
“We have told them to put a stop to this, and if they fail to do so, they will have themselves to blame.
“The other day, they attacked and killed two persons at NDLEA’s Office in the state, just to create fear in the security agents. But we must stop this madness whether they like it or not”.
Emegha who is also the Ebonyi State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), further assured f his readiness to tackle the menace head-on.
“I am the Consultant on Security in the State and I don’t think it’s a good record that after the assistance the Governor is giving to us to perform, these things continue to happen.
“The Governor cannot do everything, he has a lot of projects at hand and he has assigned roles to each of us working with him. So, as long as I remain in charge of security, I am going all out for them.
“But Ebonyi still remains the safest State in terms of security. There are alot of things happening in other states, that you can’t see in Ebonyi. Take it from me, in Ebonyi, people work around freely, both in the day and at night, without any form of security threats, but this is not the situation in other states,” he concluded.
