Popular comedian, ‘Cute Abiola’ under custody for ‘refusal to obey particular orders,’ Navy clears air

Following the widespread alarm raised by friends, family and associates of popular skit comedy personality, ‘Cute Abiola’ over his supposed disappearance, the Nigeria Navy has issued a statement stating that the actor in its custody.

Nigerian celebrities, including Debo Adedayo, (Mr. Macaroni), Wednesday, had taken to their social media handles to allege the disappearance of Abiola, who they claim has been missing since on Monday.

Adedayo had also claimed that Abiola’s family reported that the actor has been missing since Monday, prompting the alarm as to the whereabouts of the popular comedian.

Cute Abiola, whose real name is OSCOMP Abdulgafar AA, is a Naval personnel with the Nigerian Navy.

A statement making the clarification as to the whereabout of by the Nigerian Navy ‘Cute Abiola’ was signed Commodore Suleman Dahun, o behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo.

“The attention of the Nigerian Navy has been drawn to an online newstory which claims that a naval personnel, OSCOMP Abdulgafar AA, who incidentally is a popular comedian known as Cute Abiola, has gone missing. The Nigerian Navy wishes to categorically debunk this false news report currently trending online.

“OSCOMP Abdulgafar is currently under custody in his unit for breaching the Armed Forces Social Media Policy and refusal to obey particular orders. The Nigerian Navy wishes to avail itself this incident to remind its personnel to comply with the provisions of the Armed Forces Social Media Policy in their usage of social media platforms.

“The Policy, amongst others, is emplaced to protect their personal safety and security as well as the information integrity of the activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” read the statement.

It is not the first time the naval personnel has come under fire of the Military for a similar offence.

‘Cute Abiola’ has once been reprimanded over his use of military paraphernalia in his comedy skits.  

His current travails may not unconnected with comments perceived to be against the government, as the actor is also a known activist.
